The Battle Between Story and Gameplay

"Many people who is in the gaming community rants that today's games are lacking in story quality."

Yeah, technically is a fucking old game, but if you don't like it, then buy me new releases.

I hate making reviews of the games that like this... I have fun making fun of a game or enjoying it, but everything in the middle ground feels like I'm criticizing 2011's formula 1 season: Yeah, I enjoyed it but not as much as I could.

Don't underestimate the above, the game it's like really really REALLY good, but if I have to talk about the game I need to say what's good and what's not so good.

The game starts with you being Marston; a retired cowboy outlaw who seeks redemption (I see what you did there) making a good on the society but at the same time forced by the government, like if it wasn't cliched enough. You are trying to capture your old partner because he's tearing all shit apart.... well, that's what they say but most of the problems in this game are made by people who has nothing to do with the main story.

Speaking of story, this game has some issues; yeah, the game is really amazing, well written with amazing characters but it lacks the sense of urgency. Sometimes I got bored and did other stuff (and there's a lot of stuff to do here) and you might say "that's why there are that stuff", well yeah, but I didn't felt like going back, and I just got back because of guilt, like how you feel when you get out of your own birthday party to contemplate the sky.

By the way, contemplating is one thing that you will do in this game, because everything looks fucking awesome. The graphics look really good... like FUCKING REALLY GOOD. The voice acting is really good, so the game results in being really really immersive, which resulted that sometimes I caught myself speaking in a southern american accent without knowing it... which was really embarrassing. The problem is that it has more bugs than a sack of egg sacks of spiders, but they don't interfere that much with the experience. Also, you can do what ever you want in this game: Killing twats, drag losers, play with knifes in the table, play poker and chase the train, this never gets boring and it's even more fun than knowing more about the story.

Many people try to compare RDR to GTA, but I find misleading, because you can kinda recognize each street on GTA while in RDR is like trying to recognize a piece of desert from a bunch of desert. Which is not a bad thing because it felt big and demanded exploration. Kinda like MMORPG meets Far Cry 2. The bad thing is that you sometimes get bored of not watching something interesting while you are traveling, and the random encounters felt sometimes like playing Pokemon again, when you get to fight a fucking strong "ponkawala" and you are not ready, so you either die or get on without a horse. Another problem with the gameplay is the physics and animations, because the horse drives like a slow riding bicycle and the sprinting feels like a car without brakes... these are not that annoying, but they can get really frustrating when because they can affect sometimes the results of a mission and immersion.

Even with these pickings, I still think is a good game and I recommend it fully, it just felt that that it didn't rewarded me that much for playing it. I don't feel the pressure to play it again, even knowing that I will get a great time. By the way, the game it's not mine, it's Juan's game and I haven't returned it because my sister plays the game. So... sorry dude, I'll return it to you.... IN THE YEAR OF THE RAT!
